One of the best features is "Shadow Record". It has Twitch integration so you can stream with it (it'll support the webcam too). It can be set to record just game sounds, or record your mic too (though only into a single sound channel). It has the ability to record in a variety of resolutions, 30 or 60fps. What you end up with is a very small file size and next to no performance loss in even the most demanding games. Shadowplay is for NVidia cards (I believe AMD has their own version) and it basically uses the on board MP4 encoder chip on the card to record the video. I don't know of a single one fraps has that other software doesn't, but there are a plethora the other way around.Ĭan someone enlighten me as to why fraps is still used? What bothers me is that I actually see people even recommend it, and I can't for the life of me figure out why. If this is true, let me know, but I've yet to see a game that fraps works with for some reason but bandi/dxtory/obs doesn't. Fraps picks up games that other software doesn't. Lossless is just as good, and if you really wanted to record raw, I'm pretty sure all the competition does this as well, but they offer the ability to actually use codecs if you decided you wanted to.Īt the time of this post, Bandicam is $39, Fraps is $37, Dxtory is ~$35, and OBS is free. Why would anybody use it anymore? It seems like all the competition is better, or even strictly better. I don't mean to just hate on fraps, but I'm genuinely curious.
